Recently organizers in the country of South Africa have come up with a cool and safe way to create attraction, help the economy, create jobs, and help the community. The organizers plan on transforming a patch of desert in the Camdeboo municipality into a national flag, using solar panels and desert plants. This municipality is between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Camdeboo is known for having one of the worst incomes in South Africa. It has a 40% unemployment rate and is racially and economically divided. The organizers are hopeful this flag will bring the spirit of patriotism, they also hope to it will bring tourism to the country. This flag will be big, it will be the size of about 66 soccer fields. Organizers call it a simple project using tourism to fight poverty. The project will create 700 jobs most of them for women. It is also estimated that this project will cost about $18 million but with funding from sponsorships and partnerships etc. the project will get done. The organizers want to create a green legacy that will last hundreds of years. The solar panels used are estimated to power 4,000 homes and the flag will use 2.5 million flowers of different colors. The reason it is so big is because they want this flag to be seen from space. This project is expected to be completed in 2017.
I find this project to be really cool for many different reasons. The first reason being everything will get done in a very environmentally friendly way. Nothing used will be hurting our planet. The second reason I really like it is because the project as a whole will be doing so much good by creating jobs, creating tourism, bringing people together, and lighting p 4,000 homes that at one point didn't have any light. What I find most interesting about this whole project is that the flag will be seen from space. Imagine what pictures from space looking down at earth will look like. And the fact that it will be seen like that for hundreds of years makes it even cooler.
This is a really cool project. Not only will it be interesting to see but it's also going to create jobs and bring tourism. This will help bring people together and create a better enviroment. Did you know that there is a website for this flag and that you can adopt a plant or solar panel? You'll get to pick a spot on the flag and be given a pixel representation of your piece and also a GPS coordinate so you can track your plant or solar panel. You will also have a profile that will have your name and your country and you'll be able to post positive messages about South Africa.

Yea it is really interesting the article said that they were going to make a website like that, I didn't know it was already up though. They said that was going to be one of their biggest ways to raise money as well.
